Old Post Office
Old Post Office.jpg

The former United states Post Office was built by the Federal Government in 1913, located at 218 North Douty street. The inset porch area covering 75% of the front is supported by six columns with Corinthian style capitals. The roof is tlle and below the front cornice there are inset panels and decorative scroll work with a blue base color. The soffit contains decorative inset panels that also have the same blue base color.

The building contains a full basement, one floor and a mezzanine. In 1961, the government built a new building to house the Post Office at 517 North Irwin Street.  In 1964 this building was renovated by Kings county for use as a Justice court, and for court offices. In 1978 the Justice Court was moved to the new Kings County Government Center and this property was leased to the city of Hanford. The City Councilmen were in a dilema as to how they were going to use this building. A citizens group wanted to use it for a cultural center housing all the performing art organizations. some councilmen thought that it would be better used as a commercial property. Later, it became the location for the City's Public Works and Planning Department offices.

Over the years, the building has been home to several banks.
